VMUN 2023

April 22 and April 23, 2023

Vanier College's 2023 Model United Nations Conference was my third event in the 2022-23 Model UN circuit, but my very first one at the CEGEP level. After attending two prestigious university conferences, this smaller conference definitely felt like a lot of fun because it provided us with an intimate setting, which allowed us to take our debating, negotiating, speaking, and writing skills to another level.

My committee for this conference was a crisis entitled "The Fall of the Royal Family", in which I was representing King Charles III. As the new king, my role was obviously central throughout the weekend, as I had to maintain the union of the royal family to the best of my abilities while facing a great deal of criticism.

At this conference, I was also the Head Delegate for Collégial international Sainte-Anne's delegation, meaning that I was the link between the Sainte-Anne delegates and the conference organizing committee. Considering that I will be taking on the role of President of the Model UN committee at Sainte-Anne for the year 2023-24, this role was incredibly formative because it gave me a foretaste of my future responsibilities.

The cherry on top of this event is that my hard work paid off, as I was awarded the Honourable Mention Prize during the closing ceremony. This award was highly symbolic for me, as it illustrated perfectly just how far I've come as a SimONU delegate this year. I'm proud of it and it absolutely motivates me to continue my commitment to this extracurricular activity, from which I always come away with new learnings.

This conference also marked the end of a truly exceptional year for Sainte-Anne's Model UN committee, which started from scratch to bring together a dozen students passionate about international relations. For all of these reasons, this event will undoubtedly remain etched in my memory for a long time!
